Description
From the bluegrass of Kentucky to the Hollywood Hills; from the dim lights of the Whiskey A Go Go to the spotlight of Wrestlemania, Hurricane JJ Maguire has seen and done it all!
He is known as the Master of Wrestling Ring music, but long before he co-penned “Sexy Boy” for Shaun Michaels and “Cool Cocky Bad” for the Honky Tonk Man, JJ Maguire was a child prodigy wowing the locals in Somerset, Kentucky. After becoming a fixture in the Kentucky music scene of the 1960s, he caught his big break when he joined the legendary rock band The Gentrys, where he met his life-long friendship with Jimmy Hart.
Maguire rubbed shoulders with Hollywood royalty as a studio engineer in LA, meeting such luminaries as Gene Simmons, Farrah Fawcett, Bob Hope, Tom Petty, Prince, Jackie Gleason. and Henry Winkler. He partnered with his old bandmate Jimmy Hart to create over 100 songs for the WWF and WCW. He won a co-starring role on Hulk Hogan’s Thunder in Paradise, and he became a key part of Hulk’s Wrestling Boot Band, recording one of the most legendary albums in the history of wrestling music, “Hulk Rules.”
The book opens with a foreword from Jimmy Hart, Maguire’s long-time song writing collaborator, who writes, “JJ has always been there when I needed him. When we were with The Gentrys, he was there. When I was with WWF, he was there. Through the Wrestling Boot Band, Thunder in Paradise, and so many adventures, JJ Maguire has been by my side. He is a good friend and one of the most talented people I’ve ever met in my life.”
“My Life in Heaven Town” is more than just a wrestling story. It’s a story for music lovers, for movie and TV lovers, and for anyone who ever had a dream. It’s a star-studded, inspirational tale of a man who followed his dreams, met his heroes, and discovered the power of music to change the world.
